Maya Hawke Hints at New Album

Maya Hawke recently stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, discussing all things Stranger Things, music, and outside projects.

Maya Hawke recently stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and it was the chaotic, charming energy we’ve come to expect from the Stranger Things star. The interview led through a series of topics from weighing in on the last season of Stranger Things, discussion of wrapping up filming for Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, where she will be starring as Wiress, and Maya’s musical career, which seemed to involve the accidental hint at a new album coming soon. Here is everything we learned:

The music “incubator” of Hawkins: New Music on the Horizon

After discussing Hunger Games, Jimmy asked Maya about her music career while mentioning that she is a great musician. The interview took a hilariously awkward turn when Jimmy asked her if she has any new stuff coming out to which, Maya stammered, “Well, I mean, there might – I mean, well” where Jimmy then interjected asking if they could say this. Maya replied that they could say what she just said which was, in her words, “I don’t know, well, um…” Maya goes onto say that Stranger Things is a great incubator for music, with Joe Keery (Djo) and Finn Wolfhard both now having established musical careers, and that she has written an album during every season they filmed. She also hints that at least one song is a Stranger Things inspired song. though admitting that it doesn’t compare to co-star Joe’s song “Charlie’s Garden.”

Addressing the Stranger Things Death Rumors

While discussing Stranger Things more in-depth, the two talked about all of the rumors surrounding who would die this season. Of particular focus is the “Robin Buckley is cooked” post that circulated social media in December. Maya tells Jimmy that there was even significant betting over who’s character(s) would die in the series, with one fan coming up to her and mentioning who they heard was going to die. Maya tells us that she gave the fan some obscure clues. The fan used these clues to make a large bet that they lost on.

Yearbook Superlatives

The segment ends with a pretty funny game where the two completed a Stranger Things based yearbook superlatives for each cast member. When asked to pick the “Cutest Couple That Never Was,” she didn’t hesitate: Mike and Will. The audience went wild and Jimmy even adds that he likes that. However, she then gets a bit hung up on “Best Eyes,” which she moves Will to, then suggesting that maybe Mike is the “Class Clown” (umm what? Even Jimmy is immediately “no”). Jimmy and Maya end up coming to a solution for this by keeping Byler, placing Steve under “Best Eyes” which Jimmy uses a sharpie to change to “Best Hair.”

If you haven’t seen the segment yet, take a guess who they place in “Best All-Around” down in the comments below – you can watch the complete clip below.
