Hot off the heels of Stranger Things co-star Joe Keery’s performance in the sci-fi horror comedy Cold Storage, Gaten Matarazzo is making his next appearance in Pizza Movie—which is also being billed as a wild, sci-fi horror comedy. This Hulu Original film is set to premiere on April 3rd, 2026.
Gaten stars as Jack, a shy college student who, along with his reckless roommate Montgomery (played by The Goldbergs star Sean Giambrone), embarks on what should be a simple mission: walking down two flights of stairs to grab a pizza delivery. However, the night takes a surreal turn when the duo consumes experimental drug-laced mints (known in the film as M.I.N.T.S.) left behind by a former resident of their room.
The “horror” kicks in with a high-stakes twist: the drug is lethal unless paired immediately with pizza—a rule the roommates aren’t aware of until it’s almost too late. Their journey to the lobby becomes a blood-soaked, hallucinogenic odyssey filled with their “worst nightmares,” including a weird pink octopus, a “Venezuelan James Bond,” and plenty of exploding heads. Through all of this, the two must also face off against the main antagonist, a sociopathic RA named Blake (played by Jack Martin), who is looking to evict students from the dorms.
Pizza Movie is written and directed by Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher, the duo behind the popular sketch comedy group BriTANicK. Known for their work on Saturday Night Live and a number of online comedy videos, this film marks their feature directorial debut. The movie has a run time of 9 minutes.
Early reviews from its SXSW premiere this past Friday are leaning toward a weird but “cult classic” territory. Most critics admit that the movie is goofy, nonsensical, and absurd, while also agreeing it’s a fun, “anything goes” ride that doesn’t take itself too seriously. In addition to Gaten and Sean, the cast is packed with talent, including Lulu Wilson, Marcus Scribner (Black-ish), Sarah Sherman (SNL), and even a rumored cameo from Daniel Radcliffe.
